Take hip hop, R&B and soul, infuse it with '70s pop and guitar rock, and you have the defining, distinctive sound of The Spectaculars. But the Minneapolis-based foursome isn't just blending the genres for experimentation's sake. According to Joel Saint John, co-founder/keyboardist, it's because the group is selfish. "We set out to do this album with only ourselves and our interests in mind. We took our stories, and laid them down in the flavors of our group's members. Different genres may take the lead from track to track, but each one comes from the same spot - us."

Co-founder/lead vocalist Thomas Edwards, echoes Saint John's comments. "When you have enough nerve, ambition and Rosemount flowin' in the studio, you don't need to force
anything. You somehow transform from an artist to an occurrence, and things just sorta happen 'cuz the real you accidentally came out." And in this case, what came out was a 13-track "surprise-around-every-corner" self-produced album entitled "have you heard things?".

As lyrically poignant as it is musically prolific, have you heard things? was mixed and mastered by none other than three-time Minnesota Music Award Producer of the Year Alex Oana. And was recorded over the course of a year at the band's self-built studio, The Hurtlocker. "It's taken a little more time than we anticipated, for sure," adds Saint John. "But we think whenever you can ultimately give people an honest reflection of who you are, that's well worth the wait."
